Joao Fonseca has qualified for the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals, which will be held in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) from 18 to 22 December.
The Brazilian player started the season at world number 727 and reached a career-high number 145. He reached the quarter finals at the the ATP 500 tournament in Rio de Janeiro after beating Arthur Fils and Christian Garin. Fonseca became the second youngest ATP 500 quarter finalist since the series began in 2009 and the first since Alexander Zverev reached the top eight in 2014.
He also advanced to the quarter final Bucharest and won the ATP Challenger in Lexington. He became the youngest Challenger champion of the 2024 season at the age of 17.
Last September Fonseca pushed Matteo Berrettini to the tie-break of the second set and beat Botic Van de Zandschulp in the Davis Cup Group stage in Bologna.
