Alexander Bublik beat Arthur Cazaux 6-4 6-3 in the final of the Generali Open in Kitzbuehel (ATP 250 tournament) to claim his second consecutive ATP Tour title. Bublik defeated Cazaux in back-to-back weeks after claiming a win over his French rival last week in Gstaad. He is on an eight match winning streak on the ATP Tour and has record of 17 wins to 2 losses since Roland Garros.
Cazaux earned the first three break points (one in the third game and two in the fifth game) of the first set but Bublik saved them.
Bublik earned three break points of his own in the eighth game on Cazaux’s serve at 4-3, bu he was not able to convert them. Bublik earned the break as Cazaux was serving to stay in the set at 5-4.
Cazaux earned an early break in the first game of the second set to open up a 2-0 lead, but Bublik won five consecutive games to open up a 5-2 lead including two breaks of serve and sealed the win on his first match point.
Bublik has improved to 3-0 in his head-to-head matches against Cazaux. The Kazakh player has won his third title this year after lifting trophies in Halle on grass last June and in Gstaad on clay last week. He lost to Jannik Sinner in the quarter final at Rolan Garros but he avenged this defeat by beating the world number 1 in Halle a few weeks later.
Bublik moves five spots to number 25 in the ATP Ranking. He is currently 11th in the ATP Live to Turin. He joins Casper Ruud (2021) and Matteo Berrettini (2024) as the third player in the past five years to win back to-back titles in Gstaad and Kitzbuehel.
Cazaux has moved up 25 spots to world number 75 in the ATP Live Ranking.
“I can’t believe I did it as it was probably one of the toughest weeks in my life because coming from Gstaad, playing here, different conditions and raining. I am pleased I got through and thank you for supporting me throughout the tournament”, said Bublik.
